Poor: It is unusual for skin cancer to go to brain, look around for a treatable second primary, probably a squamous lung cancer.

: Melanoma spreads first to the lymphatic system most typically the nearest lymph node or sentinel node. Bone metastasis while common tend to be a later metastatic site.

Too many Variables: I am sorry to hear of your family's struggled. But we do not have any concrete information about your father's health condition.  This is a question to ask of his doctors directly.

my dad got a spot of melanoma removed on his chest. he said that the derm. got it all and it only hit the 1st layer. is there a chance it could have spread at this level? my dad is saying its nothing to worry about (from dr). what do you think?

: Your dad and his dermatologist are right. Melanoma has a very bad reputation, which is well deserved:  it is deadly when it spreads. But the actual overall mortality rate is low, because most melanomas are diagnosed early, as for your dad. That doesn't mean zero risk, but the chance it has spread or will be dangerous is low. If he has any doubt, he (not you!) can consult with an oncologist.

i have a mole on my back , im afraid its melanoma , and im afraid that its spread. i did x-ray of my back and chest, will it show if there is melanoma?

Maybe.: Xray is very insensitive tool to check for spread of melanoma.  Best prognostic indicator is the pathology report which gives a lot of info about the lesion.  Why did you get xr if you did not know it was melanoma?  Seems like a waste of money and time.

can a normal x-ray of the back and chest show if a melanoma has spread?

Sometimes: A chest xray can show nodules in the chest and is used as part of follow-up. The ct scan and the pet scan are more specific tests when  metastasis is suspected. 
For follow up after initial surgery the nccn has an excellent guide for patients. It helps to decide what tests are appropriate and what ones are not needed. We don't want to over irradiate people in follow-up.

Possible: Melanoma does have the ability  to travel to bone and would show up on a bone scan. However other processes (non-malignant) can also also light up on a bone scan. Only a biopsy could tell for certain.

i found a new flat brown tiny mole under my brow bone, and i picked at it and it became darker. probably a scab, but i ended up picking at it more and the mole came off. what are the chances i picked off a melanoma? also, will it grow back if cancer?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to know if you picked a mole or a melanoma or something else. You may watch and wait. If the mole recurs and doubles in size, becomes irregular in size, shape or color, bleeds, ulcerates or develops a nodule, see a doctor.

will the plastic surgeon be able to complete excise my melanoma in situ on top of my tibia bone with carbocaine instead of lidocaine. i cant take epinephrine?

: most likely....may be a bit more bleeding, b
but I'm fairly certain that any capable surgeon can deal with such conditions. Always can address this concern to him.
