X-rays will show osteoarthritis and should be done when suspect.

Many things.: Exercise regularly. Take meds for the pain ( usually Acetaminophen and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory).  Take meds before pain inducing activities. Consider injections of meds or surgery. Try msm/ glucosamine/chondoitin. Go to physical therapy.

Yes: Temperature variations do not cause osteoarthritis, but patients with osteoarthritis seem to do much better in warm environments.  In general, cold temperatures can make arthritic joints stiff and aching. Where warm temperatures tend to loosen up and lessen pain in arthritic joints   thank you.

Wear and tear arthri: This is more mechanical in most  people. With  maturity, with previous injuries, in some with genetics,  being over weight, previous joint surgery the joints lose cartilage as it wears down and thins  out and development of  bone spurring as part of the mechanical damage.  There can be metabolic issues  related to the bone and cartilage plays a role but both wear out.
