The only real way: to prevent flu  is to get that year's flu shot. You may not get the flu, could get a milder case of the flu or a different strain of flu -even if vaccinated. The Flu shot is a great preventive measure. Healthy diet may still enhance immunity.

Meeting sick people?: Wearing a mask and washing one's hands frequently are two things that help stop the spread of respiratory infections such as the flu. Also, ask sick people to stay home. Stay away from crowded places. Avoid shaking hands, and try not to touch too many objects. One should be sure to get the annual flu shot.

Not necessary: The best protection is for you and your family to get a flu shot.Wash hands often and keep away from face.Use hand sanitizers between washes and do not share straws,utensils.Cleaning the phone often helps and can do the other things mentained bit may be to the extreme.

Not surefire: Living healthy with a good diet and regular exercise is likely the best way to boost your immune system. Vitamin d3 deficiency may also be associated with immune dysregulation but not necessarily defect.  If flu shots do not work for you, which is unusual, be sure not to share drink or food with people and wash your hands often after touching anything in public.

i do not have any antibacterial hand soap and all my stores have been sold out for weeks. is regular hand soap effective for preventing flu and coved 19 spread? my family and i have been washing diligently

Regular soap is fine: Handwashing with water and any mild soap is fine. There is no need for the added chemicals and "antibacterial" label. Added chemicals will build up in our environment such as lakes, and will haunt us later. Handwashing with hand soap, bar soap, dishwashing soap, shampoo, shower gel... all are fine, and all wash away viruses and bacteria. That means handwashing by itself is already antibacterial.

See pediatrician: If your kids are well nourished overall, giving them multivitamins will not drastically change their degree of immunity. The flu shot would be more effective than vitamins. If you'd like to give vitamins still, it is not a bad idea for overall health. Follow the package directions for a kids multivitamin and speak to your eight-month-old's pediatrician for a specific recommendation.

COVID 19:  Yes, advise to get FLU shot. There is no COVID 19 vaccine at this time. The influenza vaccine won't change his immunity to COVID 19 but it can help in a couple of ways. First, wouldn't want to risk possibility of having both COVID 19 &amp; flu concurrently. Second, Flu and COVID 19 symptoms can be very similar &amp; one could be confused for the other.

Several answers: If you have the flu, stay away from other people to whom you can give it.  If not, avoid exposure, but most importantly, stay current with your immunizations.  If you develop early symptoms your doctor can prescribe oseltamivir or other antivirals as the strain in circulation seems sensitive.

Uncertain: I have heard claims about oscillococcinum & have intended to try it but have no personal experience with it as yet. Zinc lozenges, airborne/generic, elderberry, astragalus, echinacea all seem to have beneficial effects against flu if taken at very onset of flu or as a preventive. [caution: do not use zinc nasal gel (zicam): there have been reported cases of irreversible loss of smell with its use].
