No you should not: We strongly advice you to throw away the exored codeine cough syrup which expired more than 15 months ago.
It may not even be effective and moreover it may make you sick as exposure to light,air and many other factors causing breakdown and mixing of ingredients may be harmful

Few days: Depends on the dose and duration of use.  No more than five days after stopping it.

Depends: Not all cough medications contain alcohol; there are some that specifically do not, and if you are being tested with etg or ets testing, you should use non-alcohol containing cough medicines.  There is no way to know how high the etg level might be without knowing how much cough medicine you had and how much time between taking it and the test. Many consider etg too sensitive for legal purposes.

Possibilities....: Sometimes, after an episode of acute bronchitis, the cough can persist due to bronchospasm. To treat this, a bronchodilator inhaler as well as a steroid inhaler may be needed. Other possible causes of your cough include gerd or post-nasal drip, both of which have different treatments so if the cough is not resolving, see your doctor for further evaluation/treatment.
