Not really . . .: If you follow instructions on label, home pregnancy tests are most accurate 4 or more weeks after your last menstrual period. If test is negative, you can repeat in a week. If you're actively trying to conceive, start taking prenatal vitamins immediately to minimize risk of neural tube defects. Folic acid is not nearly as useful after you find out you're pregnant (as development occurs before).

hello there. i have a concern regarding a blood pregnancy test i took about a week ago. i had two negative at home urine pregnancy tests and one positive. then i had two blood tests which were negative. are the negative blood tests reliable ?

Yes: Blood tests, when done after a missed period are reliable.  If you still have doubt and do not get  a period in the next 7-10 days you could ask you doctor to do an ultrasound examination.

Pregnant or not?: you should definitely go to your doctor to have blood work done to check to see if you are really pregnant.  Since you are getting equivocal results with the home pregnancy tests it's impossible to tell if you are pregnant from those home tests then.  Good luck!

Any time: Given that the average menstrual cycle is 28 days and the average month is 30 days, it is not uncommon to have 2 periods in a month (one the first week and one at the end of the month).  You can take a pregnancy test any time,  but it will most likely detect a pregnancy about 10+ days after ovulation.

Possible: Every test has an incidence of false positive (says you are pregnant but you are not) and false negative (says you are not pregnant but you actually are).  So yes it is possible, the false positive rate is quite low on most home pregnancy tests, but the false negative rate is not quite so low.

So a test: The best thing is to get over the denial and find out for sure by doing a test. If she still won't, well, if she delivers a baby in about 7-8 months you'll know.

Very accurate: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, or medications. A correctly done urine test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period.

Yes: Pregnancy test should be done 5-7 days after a missed period, if you have been sexually active in the prior cycle. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.

Depo provera (medroxyprogesterone)?: U don't say what the injection was but I'm guessing it was the contraceptive Depo provera ( medroxyprogesterone acetate) which causes periods to stop.In most cases there is irregular bleeding at first but in some cases it causes periods to stop right off.The drug lasts for 3months and even after only one shot it can take several months to return to regular ovulation.Beware, u can conceive before
