It may....: "ear congestion" often is the result of malfunctioning of the eustachian tube--a tiny little tube connecting your inner ear area to the back/side of your throat/mouth. The the tube is functioning normally, you don't have the "congestion feel in ear" when this tube is blocked i.e. Cold/allergies, it affects drainage and hence affects middle ear. Prednisone may help. If worse, call doc. Good luck.

taking prednisone for ringing & fluid in ears. feel like i am starting to get congestion in throat & chest & occasional headaches. what could be wrong?

Either: Allergies or a viral infection caused swelling of your ear drainage system. This could have progressed to early bronchitis and pharyngitis. Could be bacterial or viral infection that should be checked initially by health care provider. Good luck.

ive been on clindamycin, prednisone and flonase for a sinus and ear infection. my fever is gone and i feel better except for my ear still plugged and congested. what can i take to get rid of ear congestion?

: Patience. The fluid trapped in the middle ear space will eventually leave over time. It can persist for weeks after all germs are dead. Much of the past medications offered to clear this do no good.

how long until fluid drains/ear unclogs/ringing stops/hearing returns? diagnosed with severe ear/sinus infection. on antibiotics, prednisone, nasal rinse for a little over 24 hours. nasal congestion improved but ears still the same?

: This depends on if the antibiotics are the correct ones for the bug/virus you have causing the problem. Takes time for swelling to go down. I would expect it to take less time that it did from the start to now.

is afrin enough of a decongestant when trying to get rid of sinus/ear infection, or do i need an oral decon too? taking cefdinir, prednisone and a zyrtec at night currently. nasal congestion better but ears still clogged, little hearing out of ears?

: Afrin is sufficient but you would do better with a combination anti histamine decongestant such as Zyrtec D or Claritin D. Good Luck

Perhaps: many over the counter decongestants, the question is, besides prednisone, how is lupus activity and are you on any other treatments for SLE?

Sometimes: That depends on the cause & the severity. For instance, if a person had severe asthma - Prednisone may be prescribed to help them breath.

Yes: If the prednisone is being administered by your doctor and he is monitoring the dosage and response than the prednisone may be helpful for inflammation. But do not take it without a physician's consent and monitoring as steroids (prednisone) can be harmful if not used appropriately.

ENT: Hoarseness of 6 weeks duration deserves an ENT opinion. You may need to have endoscopy of your sinuses and vocal cords. Call ASAP for ENT exam.

Yes: However it is important to get in touch with our prescribing doctor. Something should get better by now examples--- shortness of breath, sputum production, sputum color etc. The respiratory epithelium is replaced by an young immature epithelium ( lining of the breathing tubes) as a part of the healing process. It is very sensitive to stimuli resulting in prolonged cough ( upto 6 weeks ).
