Hco3 can be used as a buffer when added to water creating  more alkalinity in the blood, preventing uric acid deposition in the joints.  Perhaps your bodywork was performed after trying this treatment?  Using hco3 can dangerously raise your bloodpressure, so be careful.

It is for this reason that potassium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) can be used as an aantacid.

HIGH BICARB LOW K: Your elevated serum bicarb and reduced serum potassium are due to your med - Fludrocortisone.  It signals renal retention of bicarb and excretion of potassium.  To remedy - consume more potassium - tomato, potato, citrus, melon, banana, strawberries, etc.  Tablets also can help.  Also, a bit more salt will help the bicarb retention. Salt will raise potassium excretion though.  Hence eat more K.

: No, those supplements do not prevent or treat metformin induced lactic acidosis. However, you should not concern about this side effect if your kidney function is normal or not severely impaired. That dose is safe for a young person with eGFR above 30% (stage 3 chronic kidney disease).

Yes, however...: I strongly advise you take Vitamin C, ideally 1000 mg 2-3x/day, but you should try to find forms without sodium. I don't know what's available in Denmark, but in the US you can find ascorbic acid, or calcium or magnesium ascorbate without sodium. Lypo-spheric Vit. C is esp. well-absorbed,but has 120 mg of sodium, but a low sodium diet usually allows 2000mg/day. Vit. C is best with bioflavonoids.
