Severity: Management of MV prolapse depends on severity of symptoms, and if there is any mitral regurgitation - not so much on whether the anterior or posterior leaflets are more involved.

my heart echo shows that i have mild prolapse of the anterior mitral valve leaflet and mild prolapse of the posterior mitral valve leaflet. what does this mean ? should i be concerned ? is this life threatening?

Common and benign: Mitral valve prolapse is a variant of normal. I have the same thing. We used to require people with mitral valve prolapse and two have antibiotic prophylaxis prior to certain procedures such as did procedures but now they don’t recommend that. You’ll be fine. You might have more sensations in your chest of skips a beat but it will not affect your health or longevity. So sleep well sweetie.

Lupus and heart : Lots of what you have could occur in any individual. MVP is very common,   as is mild CAD( are you male/ overweight? -both likely to  be factors) but lupus can accelerate the CAD process.  On aortic valve were there vegetation? vegetations /endocarditis  would be more of a lupus issues f/u/ w /cardiology

Medical only: with these findings ,the main treatment is medical which is to control blood presure qne cholesterol so it does not progress.No other treatment indicated based on what you have told us at this time.

Back to Valve Basics: What do the heart valves do? They allow blood flow forward (most important) & (hopefully) prevent any reverse flow. Without an inlet & outlet valve, each ventricle of our heart would not pump anything. Prolapse commonly a "fad diagnosis" of no significance. However leak (regurgitation), because it increases heart ventricle workload another matter. If small, heart strong & does not worsen, minor.

Weak tissue: This term is applied to a condition where the tissue that connects the valve to the heart tissue may be looser (weaker). Generally benign (not to worry) but I would discuss it with your MD if your symptoms are worsening.

Moderation: .Prolapse means that the valve is loose, not closing firmly as it should. May permit a tiny amount of blood to leak through, producing a heart murmur. Aerobic exercise strengthens the heart and makes it more efficient.Aerobic exercise including walking, jogging, swimming, or cycling, at moderate pace.  Should monitor heart rate and other symptoms and slow down if feel faint or lightheaded.

Nothing really. : This really doesn't mean much, just that the person reading the echo thought that the mitral valve tissue looks a little "floppy." nonetheless, it sounds like your valve is functioning fine and that is what matters most. Some mitral valves are prolapsed (pushed up into the atrium or upper heart chamber), but yours is not, which is good. Sounds to me like you will live a long and healthy life.

what is mitral regurgitation and prolapse?

MVP and MR: The mitral valve separates the left atrium and ventricle. Prolapse means that when the valve is in the closed position (when the heart is contracting), the leaflets bulge beyond the limits of the left ventricle and into the left atrium. With this bulging may come actual separation of the leaflets which no longer are fully closed and allow blood to "leak/squirt" into the atrium (regurgitation).

how many consecutive ventricular ectopics are needed for it to be a problem - can those thuds be anything else?  i have a slight mitral prolapse.

May be: Make sure you wear a monitor to see how much pvcs you have. Have an echo to make sure the heart is ok. Then your md will decided whether you need rx or not based on your symptoms!
