Immediately: I have my patients up walking within hours of a cesarean.  We do limit lifting to less than 15 pounds for the first 4 weeks - after that i tell my patients to decrease their activity if they feel pulling, tugging, pressure, or pain in the area of the scar.  It takes 4 weeks to get half the strength back in the tissure we operate on, and it takes 6 months for full strength in that tissue.

Walking: Within a couple weeks after a C-section patients can begin a brisk walking routine. By 6 weeks patients can resume any physician activity they like.

None.: Be content to get out of bed and ambulate as much as you can indoors for the first week after your c-section. You may resume exercise 6-12 weeks postpartum and gradually increase it to your baseline by 52 weeks postpartum. It is critically important that you not let your legs hang down for prolonged periods of time postpartum. Lie down or walk as much as possible.

Recovery: In general recovery after open abdominal procedure, like a caesarean section, is 6 weeks. Best to check in with your surgeon, who knows your case best. Make sure you are seen for post-operative visit.

Complex questions: There are multiple causes of intercourse pain.  Endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, infection, and poor lubrication are just some. After two years of pain an an evaluation would be warranted.

Ask your OB MD: Have you had your post-partum checkup with your OB MD since the C/section? If not,  then it is time to return to their office and ask your OB MD as well as be assured that total surgical healing has occurred prior to engaging in an exercise program. If the wound is not completely healed at his time, strenuous exercise can cause the incision to re-open.
