No.: Positive anas can be "false" positive.  On the other hand an rnp antibody is not false. This combination would indicate mixed connective tissue disease.  That having been said, I have many patients with a low titer rnp positivity and no signs of disease.

went to dr with hand, shoulder, hip joint pain. ana reflex screen ana positive 1.0 and rnp antibody positive 4.3.  all others neg.  very scared!

Lab numbers: These numbers don't show changes at joints and with most auto immune disorders, you may have periods of pain and increased lab numbers, usually related to stress in your life, and once treated medically or with stress reduction, pain/lab should improve.  May want xray of one of involved joints just inflamed which can return to baseline.

what could a negative ana and positive rnp antibodies mean? i have a history of chronic rheumatological symptoms, but my dr is not convinced its mctd.

Lab problem: The ANA screening test is fraught with pitfalls, and if you have a way-high titer of U1-RNP on the tube test and symptoms / signs of mixed connective tissue disease (which is a rough thing) but ANA is negative, perhaps there's a problem with the substrate. Your physician will want to call the lab's pathologist -- he / she would be interested in knowing. Best wishes.

Specific to patient: The test by itself is not diagnostic..  It depends on your evaluation, examination, clinical factors are the most pertinent. The lab reports are guidelines but not diagnostic in themselves.

Probably normal: Many people have a positive ANA without being sick. If you also have elevated liver enzymes, a workup for autoimmune hepatitis may be continued, but if there's nothing to suggest a liver problem biochemically, I'd not be in a hurry to diagnose despite anti-smooth-muscle. ANA means nothing apart from the clinical picture. Best wishes.

hla b 27 is positive, ana if is positive. speckled pattern is 1:640. rnp antibodies are 0.2, and anti -dna (ds) is 2. what does this mean? went in due to pink eye that turned out was uveitis. shaky hands, rash on neck, bad taste in mouth,fatique?

: It means that you should be evaluated by a rheumatologist for autoimmune disorder. Uveitis is an autoimmune disorder of the eyes. An ophthalmologist should treat you for the uveitis ASAP.

NO.: You must have a compatible clinical picture first and the absence of another diffuse connective tissue disorder which could explain the symptoms and lab findings.  A high titer ANA and anti-u1-rnp is a pretty good marker of mctd though.

i just had my autoimmune panel come back with  ana direct positive abnormal and rnp antibodies 1.3, i also have hair loss, fatigue is it lupus?
