This is an animal fat, and as such, it should be a very limited part of your diet. Check with your family doc and dietician to learn more about just, "how much or little you need or need to avoid."....

Almost certainly: The only issue with pork is a parasite called trichinea which can enter your body from poorly cooked pork and cause muscular pain, dysfunction and heart problems.  Most pork is raised in conditions where this infection is extremely rare and it is highly likely that yours did not have the infestation.  Despite the anti-government regulation movement, this is a reason why we have FDA inspections.
