Popping: Sounds harmless to me. Where is the sound coming from exactly? Any history of chest wall trauma?

Should still resolve: How did you sustain the injury? What have you done so far? PT? abdominal exercises? Google the topic and if you don't understand go see a CT (chest) surgeon for opinion. Would wait 6-24 months before considering anything invasive.

Crepitus: Crepitus, describes any grinding, creaking, cracking, grating, crunching, or popping sound in an area of the body. It can indicate that there is a rib fracture, an area of air under the skin, or fluid in the lung. See your Dr for further workup, especially because of the continued pain.

Cartilage/ligament : It's usually the border of the cartilage and bone. They run together and can cause a popping sensation. It can happen also between the rib spaces if fluid gets trapped in the ligaments between the ribs.

cracking/popping of my sternum/ribs ever since it popped/cracked a week ago. should i be worried?

Rib pain: Need to know what happen to your sternum; what evaluation was done (exam, x rays etc); what medication were given etc.; what is your medical history. Ribs fractures are notorious for having lots of pain (maily sharp) which is frustrating. Fracture could take 6 weeks to heal. However, the best way to help is to see your doctor and make sure recovery is going well and nothing new develops.

: Have you been investigated for kidney stones? Has a urinalysis with microscopic examination of the sediment been done? Have you had a kidney&amp; urinary bladder ultrasound? Xrays of your spine? These are the types of studies I feel would shed light on your symptoms. Consult your MD or a urologist for appropriate testing.

Musculoskeletal pain: This could be from a pulled muscle, cartilage inflammation, tendon strain, bone bruise, etc. Local treatment like ice or heat (whichever feels better) to the area as well as ibuprofen to reduce inflammation is the best initial therapy. If it persists after a few days, or it worsens, see your doctor. A stool softener may help to prevent this and your pharmacist or doctor can recommend one for you!!

i have been coughing so hard my lowest rib on the left side keeps popping in and out.  the pain is un bearable. what should i do?

Exam: It is possible to break a rib from coughing.  You can also have several lung problems that can cause similar pain.  It would be best to have an exam done, particularly if the pain is severe and/or you are short of breath.
