Cancer or not.: A polyp is a growth arising from glandular tissue.  In the intestines they arise from the lining of the inside of intestine. There are various type of polyps, most benign, some cancerous. A carcinoid tumor can be in a polyp and is a cancerous tumor that can cause symptoms by making various hormones, in addition to tumor/mass effects.

Different types: A polyp is a cluster of cells usually on a stalk representing transforming cells that may  convert to Ca.  A colon tumor is a area of bowel with malignant cells forming a discrete mass that can spread.  Originally thought all Ca's of colon arose from polyps but now found that there is a transforming field effect in bowel where certain sites become polyps, not all converting and other sites, Cancer

i am 55. haven't had period in 14 months and just started yesterday.  i know it's not normal but if it's a polyp or tumor would it  be like period?

Perimenopausal: It could still be your menstrual cycle stopping, as menopause can sometimes have periods return as you go through the change.  Since it has been 14 months since your last real period though, it is recommended for you to see a gyn dr. And get an evaluation.  A pelvic ultrasound would help diagnose any fibroids, etc.  Best wishes.

Case and biopsy: From listening to patient, examining and visualizing the mass directly plus minus imaging study- you can have some impression whether it is a benign or cancerous one. However, ultimately, a biopsy is the one that can tell you definitively whether it is a cancer or a benign tumor/polyps etc.

past week passing mostly flat wide stool but twice passed round stool. if a polyp or tumor present wouldn't all stool be flat?

Not necessarily : The shape of stool wold not reflect tumors in the bowel itself. If you have concerns about tumors, discuss stool blood testing or an endoscopy to allay your fears. Stool shape is more reflective of fiber intake, bowel stimulants or retardants and moisture within the bowel.

i am 38, & just diagnosed w/complex hyperplasia,  large fibroid tumors & polyp should i have a d&c?

Follow your doctor's: Advice. Hyperplasia of the endometrium may cause abnormal bleeding and having a D&C may help with that as well as allow examination of the abnormal endometrium by a pathologist so see if there is a more serious issue.

when i have a bm, a purplish/red soft lump of tissue prodtrudes thru anus. it goes back inside when i'm not exerting pressure. is it a polyp/tumor?

Prolapse: What you described fits in with rectal prolapse. It would be prudent to get it treated before it gets worse. Please consult your doctor for referral to a colo-rectal surgeon.
