Two reasons: Getting worse, first what you have is most likely a viral infection, second you may have an allergy to sulas or other component of poly yin drops.

neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates and hydrocortisone otic solution, usp can they be used in the eyes? my daughter got pink eye took her to the hospital and this is what they gave her but the bottle says for ears only?

Do not use this: Ear drops are way too acidic for the eye. Most of them are in the 3.0 to 4.0 range. Eye drops tend to be more neutral and will sting intensely as the PhH drops below 7. If you squirt a lot of ear drops into an eye, you may get a chemical burn.

In addition to this, I try to avoid putting neomycin solution in eyes as it is toxic and can cause allergic reactions.

if i used polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) in eye last month and got pink eye again this month i used polytrim (polymyxin b and trimethoprim) again would that be considered prolonged use?

No: However, recurrent eye infections should make you wonder why this is happening.  If you are a contact lens user, perhaps there is a problem with your lens hygiene.  Also, this time of year allergic conjunctivitis is common and can simulate or bring on infection.  Finally, be sure to clean your eyelashes and lids daily with a washcloth and warm water.

CONJUNCTIVITIS : Conjunctivitis is very contagious with your symptoms it sounds more bacterial than allergic . Redness tends to resolve in 1-3dys. You can add in ZYRTEC (cetirizine) &amp;PATANOL DROPS to cover any allergic component.

Depends: It really depends on the cause of the pink eye. The most common cause is due to a virus, in which case iit is generally supportive treatment with artificial tears. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics; inflammatory processes with steroids and non-steroidals; and allergies with anti-histamines. You need to see an eye md to find out what you have.

Probably not: Polymyxin b  is a good antibiotic if there is infection as a cause for the soreness.  There are many other causes and better eyedrops for other conditions.  Check with you ophthalmologist to sort this out.

No: No this is not a prolonged use. Either the diagnosis is wrong or you may have a resistance. See your doctor again

CONJUNCTIVITIS: Some eye drops do irritate the eyes. Check with the pharmacist. Make sure it is not mislabeled.

is it safe to use visine with polymyxin drops for pink eye?

Accepted Answer

Yes/no: Should be safe, but i would not recommend because visine is a vasoconstrictor and will limit / restrict blood flow to the surface of the eye (that is how it takes the red away).  But with and infection or pink eye, you want the blood flow to help take care of the infection/pink eye.

are polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) drops good for pink eye?

Accepted Answer

Not usually: Most 'pink eye" is viral and polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) is a good anti-bacterial which will probably do no harm but will not affect  viral infection.
