ive had lots of lab work due to an upcoming surgery. 5 days ago my platelet volume was 12.7- yesterday it was 13. my platelet count is 236, is this a concern? all other cbc labs were normal although the partial thromboplastin time was high end, 33.

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, none of the values you provided is a cause for concern.

i will undergo surgery for a spinal tumor removal and had blood works. my wbc(11.70), hemoglobin(15.80 g/dl), hematocrit (46%) and platelet count (480)are higher than normal. will this affect my surgery? and should i be worried? i'm 26/f. thank youu?

: The lab values in your question are excellent, and while your platelet level is high, your current levels  will not affect the spinal tumor surgery adversely.

Huh?: I suspect you mean red blood cells as they are dependent upon adequate iron stores for production and are often low in menstruating and birthing females.  If you are not symptomatic and degree of anemia is mild I do not see you should be worried.  It might make sense to use an ocp to help control menstrual loss. Red meats are a great source of iron. Take your iron with an acid juice or vit c.

Okay with me: I'm a pathologist. It's normal in my book, though most folks run a bit lower. Trust you're not iron deficient. Trouble from high platelets doesn't start until much higher and it's unlikely to continue to rise.

Error,prodctn,distru: A random low platelet count is often the result of the nature of the test. Platelets are frail & may clump in the specimen before the test is run so a falsely lowered count is found.Low production during illness or bone marrow failure usually shows up in several blood cells. Increased destruction by immune factors or loss with bleeding disorders are seen. Platelets only last a few days at best.
