i recently bought a home ecg machine to monitor my heart. part hobby. part medical reasons. when i did a test with electrodes for my limbs. lead 1 was not the same as lead 2 and 3. lead 1 was barely giving a signal. what could this mean?

: A problem with lead placement is the most likely explanation, especially if you are not having any symptoms. Perhaps you could bring your machine to your doctor to see if the doctor gets a different result using your machine. Be sure to put the leads on per the instructions and be still during the reading! Accepted Answer

Standard: Most typical 5 leads are: right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, v1 lead.
For convenience, they are usually put on the torso.
Put the arm leads by the corresponding clavicle.
Put the leg leads at the inferior edge of ribs on each side.
Put the v1 lead just to the right of the sternal border at the 4th intercostal space.

what is the meaning of abnormal ecg and unconfirmed diagnosis and 12 lead, standard placement?

: The jumbled words cited have little meaning beyond the obvious and must be interpreted by the doc who ordered the test and knows the history. Abnormal means just that, it does not say why or how much. Unconfirmed = unconfirmed. 12 leads are the standard for many people who do EKG's &amp; includes leads on the extremities and the chest near the heart.

Adhesive: It is very common that the adhesive on the electrodes cause a localized irritation/skin reaction.

where do i place an ekg electrode on a woman with no breasts or a bilateral implant?

Not a problem: The electrodes are not placed on the breast in anyone so it's not an issue. V1 goes to the right of the sternum; v2 (left 2nd ics) v4 in the mid-clavicular line 5th ics; v3 between v2 and v4. V5 in the anterior axiallary line 5th ICS and v6 in the mid-axillary line 5th ICS - none go on the breast which would act as an insulator and interfere with the tracing. 
Ics=intercostal space.

can i be allergic to ekg electrode patches? i had an ekg yesterday, and this morning i have an itchy red rash in all the spots where the patches were. could it be an allergic reaction? it itches a lot. could it be serious?

Yes. : Yes.  This sounds like an allergic reaction to the adhesive or latex in the ekg electrode patch. Many people are sensitive to adhesives. Be sure to tell your health care provider to add this to your list of allergies. Also, let your health care provider know about your rash/itchy reaction so he/she can recommend treatment. (usually an over the counter cream).
