how could i loosen the tendons and allow the dip and pip joint to bend?

Accepted Answer

Exercise & Rehab: I am assuming your post surgery or injury. Once cleared by your doctor to do so gentle range of motion exercises with the fingers and hand will help re-establish full movement. Exercises like squeezing a raquet ball or working theraputty (or silly putty if your cheap like me) will help. If your not improving physical therapy, hand therapy or occupational therapy may help. Ask your doc about them.

my dip,mip,pip joints are very painful started around 35 weeks and cts has developed and hurting at night so will all symptoms reduce after delivery ?

Most likely: Stay positive, keep your joints moving, may take ES Tylenol (acetaminophen) if pain is significant, or even Tylenol (acetaminophen) PM which may help you sleep better

why can you not extend the dip and pip joints of the finger due to ulnar nerve lesion?

Ulnar nerve: Is responsible for abduction (spreading your fingers and extension of the 4-5th fingers. It also provides sensation to that area if you have a lesion in the nerve the signal from the nerve will not get to those muscles.

is an x-ray necessary for a jammed 5th toe if there is tenderness over the dip joint but not over the pip joint?

Probally not: Toes are always getting bumped and banged and even with breaks there usually justed taped to stabilize them.

when i press or move my left index finger i get pain in 'dip' joint on the underside though and slightly on sides of finger. no pain on top of finger?

Accepted Answer

Your index : Finger may be inflamed. You can try taking Ibuprofen 600-800 mg every  8 hours for two days then as needed. If there was trauma involved , be sure to check for possible fracture and see ortho surgeon.

always cracking mp joints in fingers and big toe and even dip joints in fingers. cannot stop as this has been ongoing for over 4 years. what can i do?

Snap, crackle &amp; pop.: It is a habit, and like most habits, both good and bad, very hard to break. You can spend a lot of money and time for help, but in the end, you either want to stop or not. I can think of a lot of worse things to spend your time doing.

bilateral finger pain at dip joints and right arm pain throughout. 32 yo f. what could this be?

Possibly cervical: Your symptoms may be due to a cervical radiculopathy, or pinched nerve in your cervical spine, often due to a herniated disc.  Alternatively, some patients have carpal tunnel syndrome that can cause similar symptoms.  If the symptoms persist i would recommend seeing a physician for further evaluation.

had osteotomy to straighten ring finger distal phalanx.  joint was not exposed or operated on.  results were good, but now have a bigger bump than before just before the dip joint.  can it be shaved?

Bump: Thid could be scar tissue or reactive bone . I would followup with surgeon who performed osteotimy.

how do i treat a dip joint fracture that's not been treated before but has already started to round off? my entire thumb is painful. thanks.

Fracture: This sounds like you have had an x-ray of the affected limb. If this fracture is in the joint then i would recommend surgery. Otherwise there is a high likelihood that you will get degenerative joint disease. If the fracture is not in the joint then immobilization of the finger for up to 8 weeks should help with healing. Icing the area and taking an NSAID will also help. See your hand specialist.

dip joint of big toe red and swollen, third time in 3 months, last for 2 weeks but doesnt heal 100% and keeps coming back, urid acid ok.
xray ok?

Big toe pain: it could be caused by gout.  With acute gout attack the uric acid may not be elevated but in the upper limits of normal.  Also you only see changes in the X-Ray if it is chronic gout where there has been joint damage.  Other possibility could be infection.  Try changing your diet and cut down on your protein intake.  This should usually resolve acute gout attacks.  If it does not then see a doctor
