Why can you not extend the dip and pip joints of the finger due to ulnar nerve lesion?

Ulnar nerve: Is responsible for abduction (spreading your fingers and extension of the 4-5th fingers. It also provides sensation to that area if you have a lesion in the nerve the signal from the nerve will not get to those muscles.
