i recently started tanning. i have fair skin during and even hours after tanning i get these pin pricks all over my body some with small bumbs.

Conscience: Tanning is never recommended.  A tan is sun damage to the skin and causes loss of elasticity, sagging, as well as increasing your risk for skin cancers which are highly unattractive.  Don't tan, whether under the sun or in a tanning booth.

Petechiae.: If these just appeared you should see your doc to have some testing done.  These may represent tiny leaking capillaries as a result of a low platelet count  (itp) or vessel damage (vasculitis).

Don't do it!: A literature search resulted in only a couple of small case reports. Obviously not enough evidence of efficacy or safety for spinal application.

See a doctor: It could be scabies. You may be able to see the burrows or visualize the tiny nits or organism. If scabies can be treated with prescription nix (permethrin).

Difficult: The tingling is the result of hyperventilating and blowing off too much carbon dioxide.  Begin by concentrating on your breathing.  Deep, slow breaths.  Learning and practicing meditation could help tremendously.  That said, a therapist can give proper training and help identify triggers.

can any diseases be transmitted via pin pricks? i teach sewing and often prick myself with student's pins in which they have pricked themselves with.

Unlikely but possibl: There are blood borne diseases that can be spread by anything with infected blood that penetrates your skin. There are a lot of studies that assess that risk, and solid needles are very unlikely to spread disease. It is still important to not expose yourself to that risk. Keep in mind that the pins would have to penetrate deep enough to draw blood to be infective.

Herpes Zoster: Herpes zoster which is an inflamation of the sensory nerve root by a virus called varicella/zoster can be manifested as a burning sensation mostly is very painfull, the burning then will be followed by vesicular rash takes a linear distribution following the pathway of the peripheral nerve under the skin, i advise you to see your family doctor to start the treatment with acyclovir.

i have been getting pin prick sensations in my thighs when the temperature drops to even a little cold what could this be?

Reflex: I would consider this a reflexive reaction to a drop in body temperature similar to goose bumps and/or an irritability of the superficial nerves of the thighs also on cold exposure.I don't think this reaction is indicative of any neurological pathology.

im a 42yr old woman and have in last couple months off and on i get itch internally and pin pricks randomly comes and goes. could it be hormones? ty

Yes: if you are getting vaginal itching it could be from dryness secondary to hormonal changes. If you have an associated discharge you may want to make an appointment with your primary care doctor to rule out infection
