Basic anatomy: They are located deep behind the intestines (retroperitoneal). From the back, they are blanketed by multiple layers of muscle. Note that "kidney pain" does not always correlate with the actual location of kidneys, as in other visceral organs.

Possible.: Infections may be diagnosed by a blood test or wound cultures.

why does our body not reject the insulin made from genetically modified organisms like bacteria?

Accepted Answer

Mimics our insulin: The human Insulin genome is genetically transfered into the bacteria.  Then it produces the insulin, identical to human Insulin so there is no reaction against it (humulin).  The Insulin from that source is purified to eliminate bacterial proteins and so it is non-reactive.

why was there a small pink clump almost like a piece of body tissue in my urine, im a young female ive been on my pill for ages so its not due to a pill change, i am not sexually active aswell so that is out of the picture?

: Contamination with vaginal material could be an explanation. It is not feasible to provide a more meaningful opinion without additional history and results of urine examination. It does not seem to be an urgent matter and you may discuss it with your doctor at the next visit. If the event recurs, it would be prudent to see your doctor sooner.

if your healthcare provider had multi-resistant organisms on their hand and touched your pimple, can they get into your body? (mrsa, vre, esbls, mbls)

If they did not: Clean their hands and did not wear gloves, it is possible. If they did either of those, then the chances are tiny. Mrsa is something that is almost ubiquitous now, can pick it up anywhere and abscess or pimples often are colonized with it in already colonized individuals. All that being said, it is possible.

what happens to the organs when so much weight is lost? where do the go, do they shrink? looking at pictures for a class i noticed the stomachs were so sunk in and was wondering where to the organs go? do they shift or shrink?

Some : Some organs with a large fatty content like the liver may shrink, however most stay about the same.  The sunken appearance may be because of a reduction in the intra-abdominal fat which will reduce the overall intra-abdominal volume.

why is a parotidectomy so invasive? i've seen organs removed and many other surgeries with minimal cutting/lasers, etc. but the pics i've seen of a parotidectomy look very invasive! must they pull back so much of the face/skin to do it?

: Many measures are recommended before a parotidectomy is considered - usually for a tumor - most of which are benign (80%). This is a heavily neurovascular area: the facial nerve invests within the tissue and needs to be protected. The skin is pulled back to expose the tissue from the jawline (concealing) incision. It takes between 2 and 5 hours to complete; less invasive procedures do exist

Self view: Body image is what you think others see.  In the us, many of us have poor body images--too fat or skinny, too tall or short, this or that body part too small or large.  A fun test of this is to get a big scroll of paper and try to draw an outline your body, then back up to it have & have someone trace your actual outline.  Men routinely draw shoulders wider than they are, women, bigger waists.
