i recently noticed the area above my right clavicle was swollen and hard. now my other one is swelling. what's wrong?

Swelling : I am not sure but would get examined to be sure you are okay. It could be swollen lymph nodes which is concerning

does your face get swollen after a root canal? if so, how long does it last?  her picture day is 2 days after. will it be gone by then? thank you!

Not usually: There is only swelling if there is a serious infection that is not being treated.   The root canal will treat the infection and antibiotics may be prescribed.  An infection should clear up in a few days.  God luck with the picture.

YES: you must be examined, evaluated, diagnosed and treated. You have waited 5 years to ask this question? Get a lymph node biopsy and extensive blood testing.

See your Dr: There is not enough info to diagnose your problem, and you really need a physical exam to accurately determine what is causing your pain.  You may need an ultrasound or biopsy to determine what is causing the lump, or the cause might be obvious on physical exam - so you may not need that at all, but you DO need an actual exam. Dr Google and descriptions alone cannot replace a Dr’s exam!

Tell us: Have you had fever, sweats, sore throat, infection, weight loss? Are you a smoker? What is your hemoglobin and platelet count?
Node biopsy could tell us a lot? Follow the advice and see what the surgeon tells you.

May reveal cause: Lymph nodes around your clavicle may indicate a lung problem, even lung cancer.  A chest x-ray would be the first step.  A chest ct scan would be a reasonable alternative but much more expensive.

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Venous insufficiency: I apologize for not knowing if you are male or female , if female pregnancy is always a possibility. Too much salt intake, side effect of medication, hypertension, cardiac or kidney problems. Those are things I would look at....
