i came home from my 20 week rob anatomy ultrasound today, i brought home a cd with all of my pictures on it and stumbled across the preliminary report. it says i have anterior low lying placenta, what is this and should i schedule to see my doctor sooner

Not a problem: You'll probably get another ultrasound just to make sure your placental has stretched well away from the cervix. Low-lying anterior placenta is just where your placenta happens to be at 20 weeks. I don't worry about this unless you had a prior c-sec, then i check to make sure there's no accreta (placenta growing into the old scar). In summary, it's normal & not a problem. Enjoy your pictures.

i was diagnosed with subchorionic hemorrhage at 9w. from the u/s picture in my file, can you determine where the placenta is, and if the bleed is big?

Subchorionic bleed: A high resolutiona U/S should be able to localized the hemorrhage, and determine the extent of damage.  You clearly are have a high risk pregnancy and should be seeing maternal fetal medicine obstetrician.

i had a vaginal ultrasound today. in the ultrasound one picture shows a good size lump beside the baby aginsted the wall of the placenta. in all the other pictures there is a small circle beside child?

Without the image. .: It's hard to know what you are describing without the image, but it sounds like a placental chorioangioma, which is usually a benign finding. Google that, and look at "images" to see how it compares to what you've got.  By the way, the small circle is the yolk sac.

Plac  covers cervix: The placenta can be located anywhere inside the uterus. If the placenta covers the opening of the cervix then it is called a placenta previa. In some cases it is not covering the opening but is close. This is referred to as a low lying placenta. This is common early in pregnancy and is monitored by ultrasound. If the placenta is covering the cervix then a C-section is needed for delivery.

No: Posterior placenta means that it is attached to the back of the uterus. Anterior placenta means that is attached to the front. Low lying means that it is attached low in the uterus near the cervix. A fundal placenta means that it attached at the top of the uterus.

Low placenta: An ultrasound diagnosis of a "low lying placenta" means that the edge of the placental location is near the cervical canal. If the placenta was covering the canal, it would be called a placenta previa, which would pose problems for delivery, and could cause bleeding with sexual activity.  Sex should be OK with a low lying placenta.

Low "lying" placenta: The placenta is developing very close to the cervical opening, and is not "truthful"(lying) as it will usually migrate upwards further into the uterus as the baby grows later in the pregnancy. If it remains in that location, bleeding may result.

Low-lying placenta: A low-lying placenta is when the placenta has implanted near the cervix but not over it as in a placenta previa.  We treat the low-lying placenta with pelvic rest and decreased activities like no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise.  They generally resolve on their own.  They have no effect on the growth of the baby.

Placental location: An anterior low lying placenta is a possible cause of bleeding if running at this stage of pregnancy. It is unlikely to cause a serious problem for your baby, however.  Usually the low lying placenta will be located higher up as the uterus grows, and will not be a problem for delivery.  Another sonogram in a month may show it to be in a more normal position.
