what should the scar look like after a punch biopsy?

Depends: On some individuals there is no scar. On others a thick scar (keloid) may develop. On some patients there is a flat area of decreased pigmented skin. The size of the scar will depend upon the size of the punch biopsy. It has been my experience that how one scars in the past is representative of how you may scar in the future.

when i think of sex with men or picture having sex with them i get scarred and nauseus. but not with women so much. more scared ill get hurt?

Feelings & fears: Agree with dr. Friedlander that considering sexual relationships is a big part of growing up.  Many people are anxious & worried about this, even if they don't say so.  Also, learning about your own sexual preferences is momentous as well.  Not everyone is heterosexual, and some need time to realize their own natures.  Working with a therapist may help you through this important life passage.

what happens in a punch graft for an acne scar?

Accepted Answer

Trade a scar: The basic idea is this is trading a scar for another scar.  It is a form of scar revision.  However, the scar you get from the punch procedure will usually be a better looking scar.  It is not a guaranteed procedure though so this must be a part of the discussion you have with your dermatologist.  In the right patients it can help the appearance of some scars.

i was punched at 13 and i noticed my right back side of my head is swollen. i figured it is just scar tissue. is there risk of cranium compression?

No: The scarring is outside the cranial vault and it's only risk is for visual defect.

i got punched in the nose today and there is  huge patch of redness, i was wondering when will the redness go away and if it will scar? thanks.

Accepted Answer

Fine: After a punch/trauma, redness and swelling are very common and are most often self limiting and go away within a week or so.  Scarring should not occur from a punch that has simply caused redness.  Good luck.

will a punch biopsy improve the scar left on a cheek by an elect.bist.(4mm) or make it worse? 1 stitch required but i'm afraid of invasive treatment.

Why worry: In the hands of experienced  expert  professional the scar will be minimal  ( some times may not even see with naked eye )  See a plastic surgeon , or cosmetic dermatologist

i had tommyjohn surgery on elbow 8yrs ago. if i throw punch during boxing it hurts as bad as when i got the injured briefly.am i breaking scar tissue?

Or needs a repeat: Continued use will take it's toll on the reconstruction as it did on ur normal ligament, & needs re-evaluation & possible re-do of the surgery.

You : You will typically not need stitches  or have scar after a punch biopsy. The biopsy will be done using a small needle where a device to obtain the specimen will be inserted. It is a minimally invasive procedure and you will leave the hospital with a bandaid with minimal pain.

what would be a better treatment for closely packed ice pick scars  on nose? derma rolling, punch excision or tca cross? are the effects permanent?

Accepted Answer

Nose: Depending on the location and the pattern of scars, excision may be an option but will leave a scar. TCA depending on what strength may or may not penetrate deep enough. Derma rolling is not something I am aware of or would recommend.

what is the best proven treatment and success rate for darker skin tones for hypertophic scar on the face as dermatology punch excision procedure to treat an ice pick scar can sometimes leave you with a hypertrophic scar with this procedure?

: I would direct this question to a skilled cosmetic or plastic surgeon with a lot of experience in treating facial cosmetic issues.
