Yes: While the back lumbar discs can herniate in different ways the nucleous pulposis inside the disc may leak out. Depending on how it breaks the nearby spinal nerves are irritated and cause great pain.  Time, rest, physical therapy, NSAIDS, injections usually help. Surgery at last resort.

Depends: The determination of whether a compromised nerve can be treated with PT or other intervention (surgery) depends on the degree and type of issue causing symptoms.  It seems that the best thing you can do is to speak with your physician to go over your test results in detail in order to make an educated decision.

Yes: Symptoms alone can strongly suggest a "Pinched Nerve".
In most cases, as long as there are no ominous signs your doctor can see, PT is safe.

i was in mva. mri shows rotator cuff tear, labra tear and tendinitis on shoulder. emg shows pinched nerve. will physical therapy help and how long?

Can't answer w/o inf: The space here is limited to provide a good answer to your question. You should speak to an Orthopedic Surgeon or sports medicine doctor (rehab?) to answer this question. Generally, rest, ice, &amp; compression is used to help support healing. Anti-inflammatories like Tylenol (acetaminophen) could be used also. Later on, rehab is used when healing has started but timing is up to the surgeon.

: By the symptoms you describe and the works-up you have gone through, I assume you have been thoroughly evaluated by a neurologist. If you do not have a satisfied answer to your condition, you should seek a second opinion with a neurology team at a tertiary, academic center. Good luck.

Your best bet: is to ask your Doctor for a REFERRAL to Physical therapy and if there is no response ask for a referral to a PHYSIATRIST ( An M.D&gt; with an interest in MUSCULO-SKELETAL disorders who will certainly know what kind of a program you will need,

Incidental finding: Disc is an incidental finding that doesn't correlate clinically to your target symptoms, should be ignored better to look for another diagnosis a diagnostic injection can confirm  generalized leg and knee ache atypical  description for an L5 radiculopathy

i have been doing physical therapy and had an epidural steroid injection done for a pinched nerve (l5). i am pain free but have developed twitching and tingling in legs and feet. can painless paresthesia and twitching be a sign of nerve regeneration?

: Maybe, and could be part of the nerve stabilization as a result of decreased nerve compression.  Best way to objectify what is occurring is via the administration of an EMG/ NCT.  This could be chosen electively if problems persist.  Have your doctor update the evaluation.

See your doctor.: If therapy truly made you worse, maybe you suffered a new injury.  A good physical exam and some imaging studies might be helpful. Treatment options include anti inflammatories, hot or cold modalities, gentle stretching and staying active as tolerated.

Depends: I am not sure what you mean by a "dry disc".  If you are having back pain then physical therapy helps and can sometimes be combined with other modalities like injections or accupuncture.
