Ice Pick headaches: Variant of Migraine headaces , could also be related to cluster headaches. The cause is unkonown. See your doctor . Antiinflammatory drugs helps. A shot of Toradol and Decadron (dexamethasone) has been used to get fast response to pain.

Sciatica: Excellent question. In general, medications such as steroids, anti-inflammatory medications, neuropathic pain medicine, and muscle relaxers are prescribed first to relieve the pain followed by physical therapy or chiropractic care. If the pain continues, then cortisone injections or nerve blocks are performed. If that doesn't work then surgery is indicated for pain relief.

Multiple causes: Degenerative disc disease can cause symptoms. Mri could reveal pinched nerves if pain and weakness become severe.  If steroids are used for asthma could have osteoporosis and compression fractures. Lab work could determine inflammatory causes. Emg could define type of nerve involvement. Recent birth could result in si joint  or pubic pain. Conservative  therapy with nsaids, rest or epidurals help.

how are 'herniated disk' and 'lumbar radiculopathy' different?

Related: A herniated disc is just referring to the intervertebral disc bulging out towards the space where the nerves "live".  This bulging disc doesn't necessarily squeeze or pinch a nerve root though.

A lumbar radiculopathy is when the bulged disc or bone spurs or thickened ligaments irritate the nerve root enough to cause pain shooting down the leg in a particular pattern.  Numbness/tingling maybe too.

Other diagnoses are often medical, such as neuropathy, guillan barre and polio. These generally cause a poly radiculopathy vs a herniated disc which causes a monoradiculopathy.
