i have somethimg called patella tracking syndrome is there a possibility i would need surgery if physical therapy doesn't help?

Patella tracking: A fairly common problem ,which can improve  with consistent strengthening of quad muscles. One has to be willing to stay consistent with this regimen  for 12-18 months . It is also necessary to stay away from activities which can further exacerbate the tracking dysfunction. Things like running jumping ,pivoting, squatting, kneeling, going up stairs or ladders.

Yes: You should see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulders and be evaluated.

Yes: At age 48 it is doubtful that PT will do much to correct this

Depends: If you are young and have confirmed tear and pain is unbearable surgery is consideration. Good physical therapy can help. Try pt first and find reputable orthopedic surgeon.

Very possible: A first time dislocation in absence of broken bone or rotator cuff tear may not require surgery especially in slightly older patient.  This is much less likely to become a recurrent problem in an older patient as opposed to the high school or college aged patient.  Thus physical therapy to restore motion and strength may be all that is needed.

Try alternatives: Before trying to do surgery i would recommend seeing a chiropractor and if that doesn't work try doing yoga. I would try all of your alternatives before doing surgery.

i've had sinus tarsi syndrome since 2021 but i don't feel the pain all the time only when i'm active. physical therapy has not been helping, how can i get my provider to request surgery. do you feel sharp dull pain all the time with sinus tarsi?

: Was the cause injury or overuse? Symptoms are usually persistent.  Perhaps you'd do well to see a specialist in sinus tarsi syndrome at the department of podiatric surgery at a university hospital near you to evaluate you &amp; discuss treatment options. Hopefully conservative treatment will help as recovery from surgery is prolonged.

Go to PT: Only be knowing the specifics of your problem can you be helped.  I would go to a physical therapist with special training in amputations.  I bet your prosthetist could recommend a good one.

ROM/Strength: The first things to do will be to begin range of motion exercises.  Then there will be strengthening exercises.  This is very important to begin to get you back to as normal or better than your were.  Work with your therapist and work hard.

Try Pt first: I assume u dislocated your kneecap( patella ). If u tore your medial patellofemoral ligament (mpfl) ( medial retinaculum ) the initial tx is geared to strengthening your quads( specifically the vmo). If your patella continues to 'slip' despite quad strengthening / patellar brace see an ors adept at knee injuries. Surgery can involve repair/ reconstruction of the mpfl . Gl!
