i have toenail fungus on big toe. not too bad just yellow, looks like new nail is already growing. got lamisil. can i apply directly to nail?

Fungal nail: Yes, you can apply Lamisil 2-3 x/d directly to the nail.
It can take quite a few months for the new nail to grow in and fungal infection to heal. There is also a high failure rate even if you apply locally. Sometimes 42 d of
Griseofulvin can help if local treatment fails.

thought i had fungus on big toe nail for last 5 years. i sent nail to a lab, it's staphylococcus capitis ngs: 65%& streptococcus sp ngs:6%. it also says + for gram stain, respiration:fan. tried a compound&a med dr. sells no improvement.how to treat?

: Go talk to a dermatologist. They can rule out fungus. Bacteria hang out on skin surfaces, so this lab result may or may not be significant.

i do not want to take medication for a toe fungus. my big toe fungus is not that bad but it is slightly discolored ..i'd like to stop it.. is there anything i can take as a home product that can get rid of it or certainly help it?

: The best is to wear sandals with no socks for several months. Fungus hates fresh air.  I advise all my patients with this to give it a try. If they doubt me I suggest treating one foot with fungicide and wear Jesus shoes on the other (no sock).  Which ever works do same with other foot.

Red dots : near toes could be an extension of fungus onto the skin from your toenail. Get some help and see a podiatrist or skin doctor for more clarification and treatment.

i'm having pain in my right big toe the same toe that was infected with fungus. also have smelly feet. could i be getting it again?

Fungal Infection: Toenails infected with fungus tend to exhibit abnormal growth appearance, such as increased thickness and ingrown toenails. I would see your podiatrist to have the toenail debrided properly. If there is an ingrown toenail, it needs to be removed.

Not : Not all discolored or thick or "smelly" toenails are fungal.  The only way to tell for sure is by taking a culture.

If you have pain: I would suggest you see a podiatrist. They will be able to debride or cut down the toenail so that it should not hurt. Additionally, they may decide if appropriate to give you an oral medication or topical. A hole is not a good sign but difficult to comment as we don't see it.

Maybe: If your saying its a bruise then you already diagnosed it as a hematoma not fungus. Fungus can result from trauma to the toe. If its been there for a while fungus might be under the nail with dried blood.
