Allergic reaction: Hives are a sign of allergic reaction to a substance ingested or inhaled usually.  Alcohol contains many substances so it might be difficult to determine which component of the drink is causing the allergy.

Hives?: Symptoms of alcohol intolerance may include: headache, flushing, hives, nasal congestion,  GI upset, nausea/vomiting ; low blood pressure. 
 You could be allergic to alcohol or it's ingredients such as yeast, grains, sulfites, histamines ; other chemicals.

This must only be used under careful medical supervision because of its SERIOUS side effects. The best drug to reduce alcohol use is self control. Barring this try good psychotherapy and or AA.

In Limited Quanity: Red wine is known for its beneficial effects on heart and vascular functioning.  A 4 ounce glass a day is quite adequate to achieve this goal.

There are calming effects of alcohol in general in small amounts, but more larger amounts and frequency can be deadly.

No: There is a pill you could take to discourage drinking alcohol. Antabuse (disulfiram) causes people to become sick when they drink alcohol and over time people often avoid alcohol to avoid getting sick (or they just stop taking the pill). Revia (naltrexone) may help reduce the tendency to drink excessively by blocking the opiate response that for some people is coupled with their alcohol intake.

Alcohol and Medicati: The answer really depends on the other medications.  If the other medication(s) are central nervous system depressants, mixing with alcohol can be dangerous or even deadly.  Some medications can have an additive liver toxicity when mixed with alcohol.  Just to be on the safe side, avoid mixing medications with alcohol.

Depends on how much: Many people routinely have an after-dinner or before-bedtime drink to help them relax and sleep, and for the most part, in most people, one standard drink is not going to cause physical or psychological harm. However, alcohol is a short-acting drug, and rebound insomnia occurs in some people, leading to drinking more alcohol and a vicious cycle or even more impaired sleep, requiring more alcohol.

1. Never have a: Hangover.  2. Never have a blackout. 3. Never pass out from alcohol use. 4. Never get arrested for a dui. 5. Never have arguments with your spouse about your drinking. 6. Never get into a drunken stupor. 7. Never become a drunk. 8. Never have to feel ashamed about you did when you were drunk. 9. Never go into withdrawal. Etc., etc.
