Depends on how much: Many people routinely have an after-dinner or before-bedtime drink to help them relax and sleep, and for the most part, in most people, one standard drink is not going to cause physical or psychological harm. However, alcohol is a short-acting drug, and rebound insomnia occurs in some people, leading to drinking more alcohol and a vicious cycle or even more impaired sleep, requiring more alcohol.
