Low purines: Google low purine or gout diet to see the foods low in purines to eat and those high in purines to avoid.  Purines are important in making uric acid, the cause for gout.  If you do not secrete enough uric acid or over porduce uric acid, you may come down with an acute gout attack.  Force fluids, always.  Stay well hydrated and follw this diet as best you can.  Follow with pcp/ with rheumatologist.

Gout diet: Generally, i recommend patients avoid or severely cut down on red meats, organ meats, shellfish.  Also you should avoid or severely reduce alcohol, soda intake as these often cause a diuretic effect (makes you urinate) which may dehydrate and increase uric acid levels causing gout.  Drink plenty of water if exercising.  You may want to avoid protein supplements as well.

Uric Acid: Hard liquors, beers, shellfish and seafood, high protein items, such as meats, legumes such as beans and peas, some cheeses all should be limited or avoided.  Many websites list comprehensive gout diets.  Cherry juice reduces gout flares.
