Hormonal imbalance: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

You : You need to have a complete gynecological evaluation.  I am assuming that you are sure you are not pregnant now; if it is at all possible then take a pregnancy test.   It is not normal to not have a normal period by age 23.  There may be a hormonal cause that needs an evaluation.  If your weight is too high or too low it can affect cycles.  Please make an appointment with a gynecologist for a complete examination and evaluation.

Rare: If a women never has a period she needs to be examined  most of the time we can find out what the problem is and fix it.

See below: Half-life means how long it takes for half of the remaining substance to degrade or be cleared from the system. So if you have 1g, then during the 1st half-life, 500 mg is gone.  You're left with 500 mg.  After the 2nd half-life, 250 mg is gone, leaving 250 mg, and so on.

This value is important to allow adjustment of dosage to keep therapeutic levels at the proper level.  For instance if a drug is eliminated in the urine, and you have some degree of kidney failure, the 1/2 life is longer so lower the dosage.

Spotting: There are lots of reasons for change in the quality of your menstrual flow including weight loss, diet changes, and new medications.  If you are approaching the age of menopause, this is not an uncommon phenomenon.  Also, early in pregnancy you can have spotting.

When we speak of irregular periods, we think of something that happened or did not happen to change the nature of the period.  Since this is a hormonal system then taking medicines with hormones, or hormone-producing cysts can influence the period in this manner.  Also if there was no ovulation then there won't be the normal hormones present in the normal amounts to have regular periods.

Hormonal changes: I wouldn't question a good thing, but sometimes a shift in hormones based upon changes in diet/weight/stress/lifestyle can affect the way your uterine lining develops and sheds.
