Possibly: If the embryo transfer was done on the cycle that the eggs were recovered than your cycle may be heavier if you did not conceive because you had a greater buildup on your uterine lining secondary to the super ovulation with fertility medications which raised your estrogen levels.  Estrogen builds up the lining of your uterus.  It is normal and if it is crampy, you can take some ibuprofen.

i am currently on my period which is heavier than usual, and for some reason my toes are numb and tingling. why is this happening and is it normal?

You need to get: to a healthcare provider for proper examination and diagnosis.  Nerve entrapment issues are sneaky and hard to diagnose sometimes. Post AB heavy menses: Usually the first period after a medical (pill) abortion may be heavier due to the previously thickened endometrium.  Surgical abortion procedures usually remove most of the endometrium. You need to see a GYN MD to make sure that ALL of the products of conception have been removed.

Wait it out .: It is not unusual to have some irregularities a few months after you stop your bcp. Just wait it out. If the problem persists after a couple of months, see your ob-gyne.

Normal: In teenagers it is common to have heavy or irregular cycles.  It can be associated with abdominal discomfort and other symptoms.

NSAID's: Nsaid’s, ssri’s, hormone meds, otc meds containing diuretics, warm bath, heating pad, exercise & acupuncture are excellent for dysmenorrhea. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol & salt. Get gyn eval to r/o underlying pathology.

Seek care: There are several reasons for irregular bleeding. I recommend seeing a physician. You may be pregnant, have a hormone imbalance or other medical issues that need addressed.

Heavy menses: My best advice is to have a gynecologist evaluate you. You will benefit from having a pelvic exam, blood testing, and likely an ultrasound to make sure we determined the cause. I do recommend avoiding aspirin or aspiring containing medications while on your period and 1 week before to avoid excess bleeding. If you have to change your pad/tampon every hour on the hour please go to your ER.

Anovulation: You most likely had an anovulatory cycle which can cause you to skip an expected period followed by a heavier than usual menstrual flow.
