The british doc who claimed MMR triggered autism lost his license when his fraudulent research was exposed. Autism is emerging as a gene linked defect.Future research may point to its origin, but it has found no link to vaccines.

For Protection: Just like we need any vaccine to protect ourself against the diseases for which the vaccine is being given.By getting vaccinated your body develops antibodies against the virus/bacteria which gives us immunity and if we are exposed to the virus/bacteria we do not get sick
MMR is given to protect us against Measles/Mumps/Rubella the same way.It saves lives

But it is !!: Mmr if given in infancy and childhood will generally give a person lifelong immunity. In some cases, it does not and the vaccine can be repeated in adulthood. The original MMR was given once around 12-15 months for about 23 years when they realized a few were not protected by college age. After about 1990 we began giving a booster & that seemed to fix the issue.
