Good question: Men do not much pelvic content as their organs of reproduction are external.  The prostate gland, which only males have, is behind the lining of the pelvis, and can and should be examined rectally in men.

No: Most men go with their wife for a pregnancy check or ultrasound. Usually for gynecological exam like infection check, it is best for women to go alone so they can discuss their issues in privacy and openly.

RN in room: It is unusual for a male physician to examine a female patient unclothed without a chaperone present, typically a nurse.  However, due to confidentiality concerns, a parent may not need to be present, at the patient's request.  This in no way implies that the physical exam would be unobserved or unsupervised.

Asst good for both: The presence of a female chaperone is beneficial for both you and the GYN MD during the pelvic examination. You can ask the MD to speak alone with him in Consultation while clothed, but the pelvic exam requires an assistant to hand the MD the necessary instruments and test materials. Moreover, your emotional comfort level will be enhanced by another empathic  female present in the exam room.

i'm going for my annual physical soon and was wondering what a typical full male physical exam includes in detail. is there really a genital exam inluded?

: As a physician who taught physical diagnosis to 2nd year medical students for over 30 years I'm sad to say that many male &amp; female physicians today don't examine the rectum or genitalia in their " complete" physical examinations. With an appropriate assistant in the exam room as a chaperone, we did.

Chaperone: a male doctor should have a female chaperone  doctors are all used to "things" like penile or vaginal lesion so try to relax  but if a female physician is available please ask

what do doctors check for when doing a male genital exam?

: Glans penis and shaft. Feel testicles to estimate size and for lumps and bumps.  If you were ever a chimney sweep then look at your scrotum to see if you have cancer of skin there.  Should also test reflex to see if you testicles move up when inner leg stroked. Depending on why they are doing if (you did not say) they may also do a rectal exam to feel prostate.  Ok to ask before if concerned.
