Relax: It will resolve in a few days. Meanwhile use a conditioner rinse after soaking in shower. Next time out in your yacht,  wear your HAT, look for the shade, use sunscreen spray on scalp, use sun glasses. Go skinny-dipping at night.

Peeling off dead : Skin might accidentally lead to pulling off deeper layers of skin. If dead skin is peeling it can be lightly trimmed.

Aloe: try using aloe or a product containing aloe.  This should provide soothing relief while the skin heals.  Also, don't forget to use sunscreen next time.

Simple Care: Sunburn is response of the tissues to injury from solar radiation. It is simply inflammation which means increase blood flow to the area to promote healing. Do not use ice as this can injure already injured skin. Cool water soaks can help as can taking anti-inflammation medicines like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen). Avoid any further damage as this can cause scarring . Good skin cream applied daily/gently helps.

Aloe Barbadensis: (aloe vera) can v redness, pain, itching ; swelling from burns. It has anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial ; antifungal qualities. It speeds burn healing by stimulating new skin growth. V pain by placing cool, moist compresses on skin. Nsaid's ; Acetaminophen can help. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can be used for itching. Hydrate well ; don't peel off deep layers. See dr for severe burns.

Nothing: You lose the top layer of your skin every 7 days anyway and with sunburn the damaged skin has to come off.  The redness has to heal over time.  You can soothe the skin and maybe speed it up by a day or two by applying moisturising lotion containing aloe vera and avoiding sun exposure till it is healed.

Accepted Answer

Not a process: Burns have "degrees", not "stages".  This is a definition of severe it was when it occurs, not a process.  Redness is stage 1, but injured skin may peel off.  This does not change the degree.   Do not peel the skin off as this worsens the damage.  Use gently cream to the area daily and let it heal naturally.

i have an extreme sunburn. i am on roacutane, 20mg. a week ago i was burnt, skin blistered. now skin is leathery and started peeling. is this normal?

Normal yes: Unfortunately Accutane sun sensitizes to quite a degree and makes any burn far worse. We recommend minimal sun exposure when our patients are on it, and then only with significant sunscreen. The peeling will be worse as the burn was worse. Bad for long term skin aging and also skin cancer risk in older age - always avoid burns at all costs.

Possible heat rash: Tough to say without pictures.  Sounds like miliaria or heat rash.  Apply cool compresses, Aveen baths and aveeno (oatmeal) blue cap eczema care OTC as needed for starts.

Sun damage: Those "white spots" are likely areas of low pigmentation brought about by damage to the melanocytes (cells that make pigment) from the sunburn. It may take a year for them to kick back in and for your skin to look normal color again. In the meantime, make sure you use sunscreen daily and pamper your skin in next few months with moisturizers and avoidance of irritants.
