i have a small, pea sized lump in the palm of my hand,  an inch below ring finger. i googled & found something called duputrens. is that common?

Humph: Doesn't sound like dupytrens. That is a tendon problem that causes a finger not to extend properly. Yours sounds like a cyst or something else. Best visit a hand doctor!

i have a pea sized lump in the palm of my hand by my ring finger, the doctor took  xray and said it could be a  cyst or mass... should i be worried?

No: What you described is not likely to harm your health, limb or life. It may even disappear on its own. If your doctor is not concerned, just wait and watch. If it becomes troublesome, it could be removed if and when necessary. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Most not related.: I can;t think of any reason that a fingr tip injury would cause a lump in the palm.  Lumps, bumps and masses are very common in the palm and hand.  You should probably see a hand surgeon for a diagnosis.

See a hand surgeon: There are many lesions that present as lumps on the palm. Most are benign, but anything that is changing in size, color or symptoms should be brought to the attention of your doctor. If you don't have a regular doctor, a hand surgeon is the type of doctor most likely to take care of this.

Get seen: It is almost certainly not cancer, and i'm betting it's a ganglion cyst. Your physician can take a look at it if it's still present in 2 weeks.

Maybe a cyst: This could be a tendon sheath cyst. If so, it can sometimes get stuck in the sheath and cause the "trigger finger" phenomenon. Read about trigger finger and see if the location seems to fit with yours. This can be treated if needed.

Possible ganglion: Sounds like it may be a ganglion , although he is a bit young. Have his pediatrician check it out.
