It's good: If PDD is progressive developmental delay, and you have a happy communicative child, don't let labels interfere with your enjoyment of your baby's growth and development!  all kids develop at different rates, and even though some children develop outside of the bell shaped curve, the prognosis is good if you spend a lot of loving time with them.

Function: Aspergers tend to be academically bright and have social issues as they do not read emotional cues well. They do not have language issues. Pdd-nos or pervasive developmental delay can also  have a wide range of dysfunction and as the name suggests have delays across the board. They can be similar or vary in how they manifest on the spectrum.

Most likely: It sounds as if you are describing a form of echolalia-or repetition of words or phrases spoken by another.  The face that is it 'mostly in context' makes it subject to interpretation.  Have you discussed this with his doctor?  Providing a recorded or written narrative of his speech could illustrate your son's speech and make it easier for the doctor to answer your quetion.
