Norovirus: This highly communicable virus can remain in  your stool for 2 wks after onset of illness.  It is usually transmitted by persons whose hands may be contaminated with stool and aggressive hand-washing is the key to reducing risk of giving it to others.  If you have been vomiting the virus may be in the mouth transiently, but no data on transmission by kissing.  If you have recovered, give it 7-10 d.

Quite possibly: Within one to two days of exposure, Norovirus may cause nausea, vomiting, watery stools, abdominal cramps, chills, fever (low-grade), headaches, muscle pain &amp; fatigue. Transmission can sometimes occur in 12 hours.

Its possible BUT: UNLIKELY...if the person you kiss has been contaminated (eg by kissing someone with the virus) but is not yet sick themselves!!
Norovirus is a GI virus ...spreads by CONTACT!

Take precautions: The Center for Disease Control's website suggests waiting at least 2 days after symptoms resolve before having contact with others (such as preparing or sharing food) where exposure and transmission can take place.  That said, the virus can remain present in the stool (feces) for 2 weeks.  Scrupulous hand washing is crucial to prevent this very contagious condition.

: This is likely cleared from his saliva. Most of these gut viruses are only active for a few days in the saliva, but remain in their stool for up to 6 weeks.

Norovirus: He likely was infectious -- i.e. able to transmit the virus -- for a day or two before his symptoms started, so you probably were already exposed. The precautions you're taking now are smart, but don't be surprised if you come down with it. However, even among exposed persons, only about 60% get symptoms, so there's still a good chance you'l escape it. Good luck!

Pretty unlikely: Infection requires exposure - if the boyfriend is shedding active infectious agents  -  and susceptibility  which means your body if exposed has to have lowered resistance so the organism can take hold  The situation you describe is very low risk.

Accepted Answer

Probably not: There are no guarantees, since we don't know the exact cause her illness. But most gastrointestinal viral infections are not transmissible more than a few days after recovery. If she has felt well for 5 days or more, you're probably home free at this time.
