could being double-jointed in your hips lead to possible hip dislocations or other problems in the near future?

It may...: Hip stability is determined primarily by the position of the components and soft tissue tension.  If someone has inherent ligament laxity, then they are statistically at a higher risk for developing instability.  However, the risks are still relatively low and a good hip surgeon can use component position and offset to maximize the stability of the implant for an individual patient.

two dislocations of replaced hip in 1 1/2 years. now occasional groin pain. my doctor doesn't know why. any suggestions?

Second opinion: get a repeat CT scan and a second orthopedic consultation.

Accepted Answer

Varies: To some extent, strengthening the muscles around can provide some improvement in instability.  A person with recurrent shoulder instability responding to physical therapy is a classic example of that.  There is a component that is not really responsive to exercises which is why we sometimes have to do surgery for instability.

See below: If the pain is truely in your buttocks then i wonder if you have sacroiliac joint probelms.  See a pain specialist.

Hypermobile joint sy: Dear you probably  suffer from congenital hypermobile syndrome.They are several conditions and all of thben are due to abnormalities of the connective tissue.You should see a pediatrician or a dr that specializes in genetics, a lot of this diseases are inherited.

: Such a sprain of the ankle is as or more serious than some actual ankle fractures. To avoid ending up with chronic ankle problems for the rest of your life ( I've seen such patients) get an orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in complex ankle injuries to treat you. You may have to get one a the department of orthopedic surgery at a university hospital.

Joint displacement.: A dislocation of a joint occurs when the 2 matching surfaces of a joint are no longer in contact. This is typically quite painful and requires immediate medical attention. The joint will need to be reduced, in order for the 2 joint surfaces to come together.  This often requires some form of anesthesia or sedation. After a dislocation, the joint may be unstable and require immobilization.

Yes-protect shoulder: Working out can be safe with a history of shoulder instability with certain precautions. Your treating physician can best manage your activities based upon the stability of your injured shoulder. Physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around your shoulder an scapula are important to maximize your potential for recovery both preoperatively and postoperatively if surgery is necessary.

i have horrible dislocations and they keep getting worse and i have extended ligaments and all that sun stuff but i am a dancer, should i stop dance?

See below:: I would suggest you see an orthopod, who can assess you and then decide on a supervised rehab program, so that your muscles can be strengthened, to hopefully reduce the dislocations. Most likely you have ligamentous hyperlaxity (double jointedness) from the sound of it. After the DX  you may decide about your dancing career, depending on how many times you dislocated and which joints?

Immobilize first: Immobilization in place until a trained medical professional is available. Check for a pulse or normal color of the furthest point from the dislocation and relay that to the personnel.
Compromised circulation may dictate your assistance as instructed by the professionals.
