No, this is benign: This is a benign tumor of the ovary. Naturally, if there is a part of the tumor that is borderline or malignant, then it is a cystadeno-carcinoma. Your gyn doctor should be able to follow you and advise tests that will allow her/him to see if you are developing another tumor.

Yes possible: It is possible longstanding cystadenoma some times can transform to malignant cystadenoma , pathologically it is cancer  or not a cancer , pathologist will never describe as borderline  cancer.

Not exactly: Removing cysadenoma of ovary  will prevent that cyst tuning to cancer in future  as it was removed  however will not prevent getting future cancer of ovary .That side or other side.

Serous cystadenoma: The only way to make the diagnosis of serous cystadenoma is by surgery.  So, if the ovary is still inside, that diagnosis may have been suggested by ultrasound but cannot be confirmed until after surgery.

Regarding serous cystadenoma: "There are no data regarding the decision to observe or remove these benign-appearing cystic masses if they are asymptomatic. If the patient is a good candidate for surgery, it is reasonable to remove such masses due to uncertain future behavior" by UPTODATE.

Surgery needed: This tumor can only be diagnosed by removing it surgically. If you have an ovarian tumor and your doctor tells you it needs to be removed, get it done. Then you will know if it is benign.
