No: An elevated blood white cell count can be an indication of active inflammation somewhere in your body, like infection.  There are many other reasons for elevated wbc, but it is not indicative of colon cancer.

It doesnt: Chemo works by inhibiting/killing cells which grow faster than normal cells. There are side effects because normal cells divide as a normal function, so yes, normal cells are affected too. The trick is to give enough to kill the bad cells, and not so much that the side effects are intolerable.

Not likely: I suppose anything is possible, but i don't believe this has ever been shown to occur.

how long can a person live with small cell cancer found in the colon with mets to liver and bone?

It varies depending: It depends on the stage of disease and extent of prior treatment. When the tumor is untreated with any prior chemotherapy, then we have fairly good results and patients typically live an average of 9 to 12 months and there are some long term survivors if  patient has a good response to chemotherapy. However it is a very bad disease once it has failed chemotherapy, pts. Living only for 2 to 3 month.

why do so many chemo's fail to shrink cancer cells in some people?  would radiation do a better job? (such as with colon cancer, stage 4)?

Dna of tumor: There is a wide variation in the aggressiveness and tumor responsiveness from one patient to another and even in the same patient's tumor over time.  Tumors have been shown to change their dna over time, changing the effectiveness of chemotherapy to kill the cancer cells.  Radiation is limited by the location and sensitivity of surrounding local tissues to radiation damage.

my grandfather has been told he has cancer cells in his spinal cord. he survived colon cancer as he prevented it in the early stages. is there hope?

The elderly / cancer: There is always hope and there are treatments

the best thing is that cancer in the elderly is old too and often grows slower than that in a younger person

a long talk with his oncologist is the first step to determine options and also see if your grandfather wants to be bothered with it!

my husband had polyps in his rectum and sigmoid colon. they were taken out by using a snare and were biospied showing to be malignant. he then had another rectal exam and biopsy of the cell walls this showed that the it did not spread into the lymph nodes

Not sure: What is your question. Lymph node status can only be detected possibly with ct or pet scan and surgical specimen removal, that is, after colon &/or rectal resection.

Most likely : This depends on many factors. This is true for type of tumor and where located on or in the colon. If your doctors believe it is a metastasis then "escaped " cells is a way to explain it. It is also important to be sure it is the only visible metastasis for planning therapy.
