It depends: On the type of stent being placed and why the stent is being placed.  Plastic stents need to be replaced sooner than metal stents due to becoming blocked off(occluded).  Usually a plastic stent can be left in up to 3 months or so, metal even longer.

Dilation of blockage: Using a vascular catheter, not an open surgical procedure, a balloon is used to dilate a blocked artery.  This may be followed by placing a stent, a metal alloy support scaffold, can be placed to hold the vessel open. Aggressive medications will be needed to control the risk factors that contributed to the blockage.

Rarely: Once properly placed, major side effects are rare. It is possible to get scarring in a stent (in-stent restenosis). It is also possible to get stent fractures (a break in a stent). These take time to develop if at all. Infections of the stent are rare. People rarely develop allergic reactions.

Shouldn't be: The nostrils may be sore from the access but, the sinus, itself, doesn't have the kind of pain receptors you're thinking about.  You shouldn't really have much discomfort after the surgery.

No: Urethral stents are not commonly used secondary to their side effects.  If you are talking about a ureteral stent, one from the bladder to the kidney, that is entirely different.  In either case, it would be unusual to have generalized swelling after the procedure, and you should call your doctor.
