Regarding the kidney stone there are several ways to take care of it that might not require surgery.
You also need to know what is in your 24 hour urine collection to get an idea of why you formed a stone. That way you can usually prevent an occurence.

Repeat studies: in 6-12 months, also look for pelvic causes as referred pain to the upper abdomen, such as ovarian and uterine radiating pain so see a GYN for help.  Sometimes muscle and ribs can cause such recurrent pain.  Pancreatic pain usually is sharp and crescendos, associated with other GI symptoms such as nausea and anorexia.   Also intestinal causes are hard to see on CT/ ultrasound and need endoscopy.
