Retinal nerves: You MUST see your eye specialist soon!
Don't worry too much - I have been wearing glasses since I was age 6 - now age 71. It has never been a problem, including year one where I had trouble with 5 pair of glasses.

had cryopexy retina repair surgery thursday and a recheck today. was needing a -.75 contact lens in that eye before the tear and surgery and now reading 20/20 with no correction at all. how did that happen? shortening the axis or maybe temp swelling?

: It could be temporary from corneal change.  Your retina surgeon will tell you when your regular ophthalmologist should recheck your eyesight as part of a postop checkup.  He/she will let you know,  only after full healing, whether you're back to nearsightedness.

The : The cornea should heal completely in several days.  The retinal wrinkles may represent chronic cystoid edema. Possible preretinal membrane.  Often an intraocular injection of steroid is needed.   See a university based retinal specialist.

Eyelid swelling: Swelling under eyelid can be due to the following [most common to least]: swelling from allergy; age issue (blepharoptosis, dermatochalasis), genetic variations; blocked meibomian gland (sty, chalazion); too much salt in diet; heart or kidney problem;  mass or tumor). Rest and coolness: After injury, the tissues around the eye can swell dramatically.  If there is no bleeding in the eye, using nsaids can help relieve inflammation.  Using cool compresses may be helpful as well.  Sometimes, sleeping in a recliner can keep the head higher and reduce swelling.
