orange marks popped up all over both breasts within the last year. they have gotten bigger over time. located in the top half above the areola. these marks are flat, not painful or itchy, and follow a vein like pattern. any ideas?

Mastodynia: That's the medical term for breast pain.  If your pain is in one breast only, and it has only been hurting for a few days and is getting worse, you may have an infection, and you should call your doctor and get seen right way.  If you have fever, red streaks, rapidly increasing swelling or redness, get seen now (unless you are breastfeeding).  If your pain has been there a while, get checked soon.

i'm a 23 year-old female with a painful hard vein in my armpit. why could this be and what can i do about it? could this have to do with breastfeeding even though the painful vein is a good distance from the breasts?

Clots : Clots in the veins of the arms can be seen in a variety of circumstances, but in an otherwise healthy young person with no history of having central vein catheter placement of other procedures, the fist diagnosis to consider is paget-schroetter syndrome. This is a condition in which there is a blockage of the central veins by an extra rib, a band of muscle, or other anatomic structure that causes the blood to flow so slowly that it clots.

Initial treatment for paget-schroetter is with blood thinners or a procedure called thrombolysis. If you are breastfeeding now, that may impact your treatment options. Your doctor will probably also check your blood clotting function to make sure you are not prone to clot formation.  If you are taking birth control pills, this will increase your likelihood of getting clots.

Inflammation: The painful part sounds like inflammation. Take over the counter anti-inflammatry such as bufferin and get a doctor to examine you after the weekend. Serious breast condition is unlikely at age 22.Good luck.

Best Get It Checked: This may be the start of inflammation in that vein and then it might clot (thrombose) and hurt more. Maybe it's just a dilated vein, but it's worth getting it checked out. Thrombosed veins could indicate something else is going on and it's best to get a professional to look at it.

Probably Normal: Blue veins can be seen in fair skinned or thin individuals. This in normal. There are a few relatively rare medical conditions that can cause veins to become engorged or more prominent on the chest. These rare conditions usually have other symptoms associated with them. So if it is on both breasts and no symptoms it is probably nothing to worry about.
To be safe you should check with your doctor.

Sclerotherapy!: Indeed if this is something old on your breast and bothers you  cosmetically you should consult a physician who treat veins as myself. These veins can be closed with injections. However if the condition is new just weeks old see a physician to look for possible lumps. Occasionally these vein can harbor a clot in them and cause pain too. It is a self limitting condition called mondor's disease.

Yes, : Quite normal yet not everybody is concerned about. Obviously during pregnancy and breast feeding they are becoming more engorged and visible.
