i have an extremely painful skin tag underneath my tongue. what is it and how do i get rid of it? i can barely talk, drink, or eat because it is very painful?

: It is difficult to diagnose exactly what is under your tongue without visualization. If an inflamed salivary duct, it may be because it is blocked or it is getting caught in between your lower anterior teeth. Please see your dentist for a proper diagnosis.

for a little longer than a week i've had a white long skin tag type looking thing on the top of my tongue, it's almost at the tip of my tongue. it's not painful unless i pull on it. i've tried brushing it off with my toothbrush but that hasn't helped?

Inflamed papillae?: See your dentist for a one on one evaluation and recommendations. No treatment may be necessary unless it's purely an annoyance to you and if it is nothing more than an inflamed papillae and cannot be resolved with routine use of a tongue blade, it can always be incised off. However, it could be other things as well so get a consult.

i have a swollen foliate papillae on the left side of my tongue and it is slightly pointed like a skin tag. it is flesh colored and not very painful. i removed part of the top part myself. should i be concerned?

It should clear: up on it's own. Don't mess with it. See a dentist if it persists.

Mouth lesions: Skin tags are outpourings of skin. They do not occur in the mouth. White patches in mouth can be canker sores or aphthous stomatitis.  Not caused by HPV.

: Any lesion that has not resolved on its own within a two week period should be investigated. It is important that you see an oral surgeon or a hospital based oral pathologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Don't delay.

Unknown: Difficult to answer without seeing it and knowig general and social history.  I would recommend that it be evaluated and, if necessary, biopsied by your local otolaryngology (ENT) doctor.

Tongue Tissue Tags: Tissue tags are common on the tongue. Scalloping of the border of the tongue often matches the grooves between the teeth. Unless there is trauma during chewing, no treatment is needed. But if this is a problem a dds may be able to smooth sharp teeth or an oral surgeon sometimes needs to be consulted.

Likely not dangerous: Did this develop recently or has it been there a while? Could it be that it the normal structure, called frenulum and you only noticed it recently. There is no immediate danger, you can discuss it with your doctor when you see her/him next.
