A number of reasons: The typical incision sites for knee arthroscopy lies over a number of structures that can be the source of pain after arthroscopy. 1) the skin itself, 2) superficial nerves crossing the incision that were cut, 3) the meniscus underlying the incision, 4) the cartilage that is directly deep to the incision. Any of these can be the source of pain.

Accepted Answer

Never completely: There will always be a scar. It takes 3-6mo for the scar to mature and become white and non inflamed (not red). If you go out in the sun wear sunblock (not sreen) . The sun will tan and set the scar dark.

probably scar: After a surgery your body will quickly develop a thick scar which in time will thin out.  Probably feel scar tissue.

24 Hours: Most primarily closed wounds can be wet after 24 hours of healing. Don't specifically wash the area, however, as it has no strength to the scar being formed for a bit longer.

Post-op knee: Hard to tell what is going on with the incisions without seeing them.  However, if your surgeon told you to walk post-op day one and you cant, you should definitely call them for follow up.  The amount of post-op activity depends on the surgery.

Suture abscess: This could be a suture dissolving or this could be a suture abscess (infected suture) the latter sounds more likely give the description, please call your orthopedist, inform them and ask for a follow up appointment.

had total knee replacement in december still very painful and have small knots down incision is that normal can't get answer from doctor ?

Varies: The recovery from knee replacement varies somewhat from patient to patient and surgeon to surgeon.  If you are slowly but surely getting better, than it is likely you will continue to improve.  If you are not getting better or are even getting worse, then you need to sit down with your surgeon to discuss this further or seek a second opinion.
