Back pain : I didn't  see x-ray /ct scan of thoracic spine. You are 46 y o and taking Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) & physical therapy  with hip arthroscopy. You need good history & thorough physical examination with blood tests, cxr, ct of thoracic spine. I am sure you want to know the reason of your pain and possibly cure and relief. Could be rib problem: I see this problem very commonly in my osteopathic manipulative medicine practice. Ribs normally move up & down with respiration & are quite flexible. Sometimes, the rib gets 'stuck' losing both its ability to move & its flexibility. Some serious health problems can cause this, but usually it is just a tight muscle or ligament & can be easily fixed with osteopathic manipulation.

prob muscle strain: Tennis can be a strenous activity. It is often associated with quick and sharp movements which can be associated with muscle strains. The symptoms you are describing could be secondary to a muscle strain that occurred with your sudden movement. Rest, ice and nsaids (non-steroidal antiinflammatory medications) such as Ibuprofen or Motrin if you are able to take them will be most beneficial.

Could be a stone: From your description, your pain may be from a stone passing down from your kidney toward your bladder.  As it does so, your pain will tend to migrate from back, to front, to groin.  Usually you will have an increase in urgency/frequency of urination as the stone approaches the bladder.  Blood in the urine may be visible. Your best bet is to be evaluated by a urologist.  Go to the er if any fever.

Muscle Strain: Sounds like a muscle strain.  If so, the pain should respond to anti-inflammatories and tylenol (acetaminophen) and improve over the next several days.  If the pain worsens or you develop and shortness of breath, fever, chills, then seek medical attention.

Possibly: please see your health care provider to assess whether you may have had an injury to a disc in your back referring pain into the back and the area of your rib where you had pain before

Back abnormality: Your symptoms are very unusual and should be thoroughly evaluated. An abnormality of the spinal cord or mass in the spinal cord should be evaluated.
