Hard to say: Many possibilities: lateral collateral ligament, posterolateral corner, lateral hamstrings all in that general area.  I would make sure your surgeon is aware.  May just be part of a soreness as you return to high level in that lateral hamstring, but wise to be checked to make sure it is not a problem.

It depends: Degenerative arthritis of the proximal tibiofibular joint may accompany osteoarthritis of the knee or occur in isolation. In patients scheduled to undergo total knee replacement arthroplasty, an unrecognized proximal tibiofibular joint disorder may be a source of progressive lateral knee pain and may influence clinical outcome. As with other joints, osteophytes  subchondral cyst.

Unclear: Unfortunately this is an unclear question.  The tibia, fibula bones extend from your knee to your ankle so presumably by saying "the top" you are referring to the area at the knee?  Knee pain can be due to so many causes, such as ligament injury, cartilage injury, sprain, infection, etc.  Your best bet will be to see a physician.

i am having pain at the end of my left fibula at the top of my ankle. this has been going on for approx 9 months. what could cause this? i can still walk but on a painful leg?

: I assume there has been no obvious history of trauma or severe ankle sprain.It's time to get an accurate diagnosis. It could be a stress fracture, other bone pathology or.ligament damage. Consult your MD or an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation. An X-Ray will most likely be recommended.

Bone growth: The description is probably indicating expansion of the proximal fibula. This can be caused by benign processes such as cyst, tumor, or posttraumatic lesion. Sometimes the expansion represents malignant tumor (cartilage, bone, fibrous tissue etc). Age of patient is noted.Depending on the interpretation of the xray image and mr imaging, the process could represent either benign or malignant process.

Fibula break with li: Yes, the nerves are compressed because of the swelling and the foot can become numb. Get off your foot, elevate it, use crutches so that there is no weight on this foot asap and get treated either with a soft cast for a few days than a hard cast or surgery, let your orthopedist decide depending on the x-rays either way you should not put any weight on this limb or you can dislocate the fracture.

Without : Without seeing the images, it is difficult to know how much of the fibula is broken and how displaced it really is.  The symptoms you're having sound like part of the peroneal nerve is irritated--either from swelling or from the fracture.  Most of these injuries are stretch or bruising injuries, called neurapraxias, that resolve with time, usually about 3 months.  Occasionally, a nerve can be severed, but usually there is muscle weakness to show the more severe injury.

In principle, fractures of the fibular shaft are left to heal without surgery.  We can remove a large portion of the fibula as bone graft without significant adverse effects, so we know the mid-portion of the fibula does not provide structural stability.  The closer to the knee, however, the more likely to affect the common peroneal nerve and the closer to the ankle, the more likely the fracture will affect ankle stability.

There are key ligaments that stabilize the ankle in the area known as the syndesmosis.  These ligaments can take longer to heal than a fracture or lower ankle injury.

Talk to your treating physician about the location of the fractures relative to the important structures.

my friend is experiencing bruising and minor swelling  on the top side of foot, following distal fibula fracture surgery.  should we worry?

Probably not: It is always smart to check with the surgeon if there is signficant pain in a new area following surgery, but gravity is usually the culprit here.  With any surgery or broken bone there is always some bleeding, and in the case of the foot, one would expect that bleeding to travel downward, when visible through skin, it shows as bruisng.   You will see this in bad ankle sprains even without a break.

Let me explain: The fracture have not healed yet, the numbness have to do with some nerve  injury could be around the knee or down, the swelling could expected and also the discoloration is expected.
Talk to your doctor if you have nerve injury from the fracture? Or some thing else.
