Shin splints: is a common cause of such a pain.  Have you been walking more rapidly or running or doing new exercise?  Most pain in the front of a leg is not that serious.  Apply heat and gently stretch the area.

Sciatica : The most common cause for this symptom(called Sciatica) is the compression of one or more roots of the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body in length and width. A herniated or severely protruded lumbar disc is the most common cause for sciatica, but there are several other causes. The usual treatment is medication. whats wrong with me. my legs ach like only the skin and not on the inside. theres a sharp pain that runs through my foot. my legs only feel better with heat. and cold air makes it worst. the sharp pain in my foot comes evry so offten

One : One possibility would be neuropathy, which is a condition where the nerves become very painful in the legs (and rarely the hands).  Neuropathy can occur in diabetic patients, patients with toxin exposure, and sometimes in patients with no risk factors.  Another possibility would be reflex sympathetic dystrophy, another painful nerve condition, but that usually happens after trauma.  Of course arthritis is another possibility.    Please see your primary care doctor and fully describe your complaints so that they can perform the appropriate testing.

Nerve Impingement: You likely have some form of nerve impingent, neuritis, or lower back spinal issues due to possible soft tissue mass, bone spurs, arthritis, etc. Please see a reputable foot and ankle specialist to further define your condition.

More info: Need better history.  How did you "injure" your foot.  Did you land on the ball of your foot?  If pain is radiating from your toes up the leg, you may have compressed a nerve in the foot (neuroma).  Have to rule out osseous (bone) injury or fracture but need more info from patient.

Probably: Although there are other potential causes, your symptoms are classic for "sciatica" which refers to symptoms that run down the leg from an irritation of a nerve in the back.  Don't hesitate to be seen for it as there are many good treatment options.

my 14 yr old female runs track and field and cross country...over the past 2 years her feet and legs hurt more and more. i took her an orthopedic and he told her to wear inserts when she runs and put her on an antiinflamtory, she is really flat footed and

More : More than likely this pain is related to her flat feet.  When the foot is very flat footed the muscle and tendon on the inside of the leg and ankle (the posterior tibialis) must work exceptionally hard to support the foot.   So hard that it gets overused, inflamed and painful.

If this is the case (and as always, you can only get a diagnosis by seeing a doctor) then the goal of treatment is to take tension off of the tendon. You do this by wearing supportive shoes and using orthotics.

Although most people do fine with prefabricated orthotics, flat footed patients usually find that these do not provide adequate support.  That flat foot simply needs a lot more support and usually requires a custom orthotic with a very specific design.

I've written a fairly long article explaining how orthotics for flat feet should be made to provide the best outcomes.  That is on my website and a link to that article is below.  I've also included a link that explains posterior tibial tendonitis in more detail.

You need to find a podiatrist with a special interest in orthotic therapy and sports medicine.   The reality is that some podiatrists are experts in orthotic therapy and some are not.

i have been battling with pain in my hands which runs up my arms and at times i get the same thing in my feet and legs and occasionally my knees. it doesn't feel like muscle pain it feels almost as though the nerves or bones are aching?

Neurology ?'s : Symptoms such as described require evaluation by a neurologist.  Ask your gyn physician to refer you to a neurologist for exam and other testing. Need more information to provide a more detailed response.

Nerve issue: You are probably dealing with a lower back issue. Possibly a disk compression.  Consult with your primary physician, an orthopedist or a chiropractor for an examination.
